Ex-Oyo Governor, Ladoja Donates Life Pension To #FundLAUTECH

Former governor of Oyo state, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja on Wednesday donated N5, 840, 000‎ to #FundLAUTECH – an initiative set up by the alumni to solve the institution's funding problem.

According to InsideOyo, Ladoja donated N2, 000, 000 and promised to donate his next 6 months pension salaries to the cause. His pension, according to sources, is N644, 589.15 per month.

Cross River University Of Technology Suspends 16,000 Students Over N1.2Billion Debts

Lack of funds for school fees is set to affect the studentship of thousands of students in a tertiary institution in the South-south part of Nigeria.

No fewer than 16,000 undergraduates of the Cross River State University of Technology (CRUTECH) have been suspended following their inability to pay their school fees, totalling about N1.2billion.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Anthony Owan-Enoh on Thursday signed a 15 page advertorial in a local tabloid, Nigerian Chronicle, and listed the entire names of the students across all departments in the three campuses in the state.

UNIABUJA Gets Full Accreditation For 12 Courses

The University of Abuja has regained full accreditation for twelve courses, including Accounting, Business Administration, Arabic Studies, Christian Religious Studies, and English Language.

Director of Quality Assurance, National Universities Commission (NUC), N.B. Saliu, made this known on Monday.

Apart from the aforementioned courses, the other accredited courses are;
History, Diplomatic Studies, Islamic Studies, Linguistics, Philosophy, Theatre Arts, History Education and Social Studies Education.

The courses were assessed by the NUC during its accreditation visit to the university in 2016. Ediga Agbo, spokesperson of the governing council of UNIABUJA, confirmed the development.

“The situation then looked so bleak that we wondered if there was a university. The Engineering students had been sent out to other universities and the medical students were on strike as they had spent 4 to 5 years without accreditation and the Council confronted these situations head-on.

“Today, the university has 53 programmes with 28 having full accreditation, 23 have interim accreditation and others have denials.”

Agbo said that UNIABUJA hopes to get 95 per cent of its courses approved by the NUC during the next accreditation in May.

Researchers at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, set out to find whether it’s the actual configuration of our facial features that matter or just the features of the left cheek that makes it appear more expressive. For the very small study, 81 people assessed two sets of images to determine which appeared happier, reports PsyPost. One set showed faces as they appeared while the other scrambled features.

They found that people preferred the left cheek in both instances, which means that featural cues of the left cheek were enough to determine emotion.There was a stronger preference, however, for the left side of the face in those that weren’t scrambled.“As scrambling faces disrupts configural processing, the fact that the left cheek was perceived as more expressive even when scrambled confirms that differences between the cheeks’ featural information are sufficient to induce the left cheek bias,” the authors write in the paper.

Nigerian Emerges Students’ Union President in US’ University

Nigerian-born Chimezie Ebiriekwe has emerged the new President of the Associated Students of San Diego University, California, USA.

The results were announced following a peaceful election that featured four candidates. However, Ebiriekwe won the poll with 3,454 votes. While his closest opponent, Ben Delbick got 1,189, Chloe Sension got 1,014 and Kaitlyn Hart got 94. Addressing the media after the results were announced; Ebiriekwe, who hails from Imo state, spoke on how he got involved with students’ union politics in the United States.

He said: “Originally, coming on campus, I was not involved with Associated Students.

“I was chief financial officer of the African Student Union and from there I saw the impact I made within that organization and then I sought out to be the chief financial officer of the Student African-American Brotherhood during my second year.

13 Auchi Poly lecturers sacked for sleeping with hired prostitutes & male students girlfriends for marks

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on Thursday announced the dismissal of five lecturers and the termination of appointments of eight others in Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi.

The dismissal and termination of appointments are in connection with s3xual-related offences.

The Executive Secretary of the board, Dr Masa’udu Kazaure, who made this known at a news conference in Kaduna, said 16 other lecturers were demoted, while four others were warned.
He also said two others were advised, another two cautioned, while one lecturer would be mentored.

He said the development was the outcome of an investigation following a publication by The Punch newspaper of April 9, 2016 with the title: `School Where Prostitutes Assist Male Students to Get Marks’.

Kenyan Master degree holder stands on the road to plead for a job

Just days after a lady was given a job after she was spotted on the street of Nairobi with placard seeking for a job, a Master degree holder identified as Elijah Yegon has joined the moving train to advertise his skills to prospective employers.
The Economics and Statistics graduate worked as a Sales Representative at two different firms that later sacked him after they announced their plans to downsize. He later used all his savings to acquire a Master’s degree in Project Planning and Management at the University of Nairobi, hoping for a better job that never came.

The 29 year old was seen on the streets of Nairobi on Monday, carrying a placard asking for a job. In an interview with Nairobi News, he revealed that he has done approximately 500 applications both online and Physical this year with no feedback given.

Oxbridge Freshers To Get Classes In S3xual Consent That Teach Them How Not To Rape Fellow Undergrads

Freshers at Oxford and Cambridge universities are being put in classes telling them not to rape. 

Each first year has to attend a controversial 'consent class' during Freshers' Week in October, which teaches students not to s3xually assault others. Classes at Oxford University are compulsory - with the same workshops at Cambridge being run on an opt-out basis.

Rugby players at Oxford University will also be made to attend anti-misogyny workshops later in the year to stamp out 'lad culture' among players.  The initiative has been branded too little too late by some, with one student saying: 'I've never been to a consent class and I've still managed never to have s3xually assaulted anyone.'

But Orla White - Vice President for Women at Oxford University, has defended the classes, saying the discussions 'break taboos'.

Unilag Student Faces 4 Semesters Rustication For Social Media Post

A student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Adeyeye Olorunfemi of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences department of Building has been rusticated for 4 semesters for criticising the management of the institution.

It will be recalled that the authorities of the institution recently rusticated 11 executive members of the school’s Students’ Union executives, including its president, Mohammed Olaniyan, over the April 2016 protest.

The affected students were rusticated between two and four semesters, which took effect from the second semester of the 2015/2016 academic session.
Those serving two-semester penalty were informed to apply for readmission at the beginning of the second semester of the 2016/2017 academic session, while those that are out for four semesters are advised to reapply in the second semester of 2017/2018 academic session.

One of the students, Adeyeye Olorunfemi’s was suspended for criticising the leadership of the institution on their inability to manage situations as “democrats”.

The student expressed his mind in his article titled, ”The Senate of the University of Lagos; a Conglomeration of Academic Ignorami”.
