The Show Must Go On: Ballon D’Or 2016 will go ahead in Paris; FIFA working on awards show

Ballon D’Or and FIFA World Player split
The sensational news that the Ballon D’Or and FIFA World Player awards are set to be split emerged earlier this week, and full details have now been confirmed.

Since 2010, FIFA had enjoyed the role of sole proprietor of football’s most prestigious individual award; FIFA merged the two awards into one, leaving its title as the Ballon D’Or, and doing away with the FIFA version.

But that’s now set to change, as France Football are set to regain control of the Ballon D’Or this year, while FIFA will take care of its own award once more. And despite concerns to the contrary, the Ballon D’Or 2106 will go ahead as normal this January.

Ballon D’Or in Paris, FIFA in London
The Ballon D’Or gala will take place in Paris, its original home until 2010, when Zurich took over as Ballon D’Or HQ.
FIFA, meanwhile, are working on getting their own award show ready, with London set to be their location.

FIFA President Infantino wants to make the FIFA World Player award the most prestigious award in football, and is intent on challenging the Ballon D’Or for supremacy once again.
