It’s not a great Wednesday for Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney.
Rooney has been pilloried by former United right back Paul Parker, who called the England captain “overweight and slow” in a recent column for 888.
At the same time, the Sun have published an article looking at Rooney’s future at the Theatre of Dreams, as he’s only got another 18 months to run on his present contract.
According to the red top, Rooney will not be offered a new deal to stay at United until he proves he’s worth it: United chiefs are reluctant on offering him new terms along with a pay-rise and he must prove he is worth an increase on his £300,000-a-week wages.
An Old Trafford insider said: “Rooney is ready to end his playing days at United. He is presently contracted until the summer of 2019, but nothing is in the pipeline.”

Rooney’s fine start the season
Last weekend, Rooney got off the mark in Man United’s 3-1 away win at Bournemouth.
Rooney was rewarded by being picked in Opta’s Team of the Week.
Man United return to action on Friday night against Southampton. The match should see Paul Pogba’s first appearance since his move from Juventus.
