Arsenal panned mercilessly as Riyad Mahrez signs new four-year deal at Leicester City [Tweets]

Mahrez commits future to Leicester

Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has followed in Jamie Vardy’s footsteps by signing a new long-term deal at the club, despite endless speculation linking him to Arsenal and Chelsea.

The 25-year-old PFA Player of the Year today signed a new four-year deal with the Foxes, which ties him to the club until 2020. There is reportedly no release clause in his contract.
Speculation linking him with a big-money move to London was probably drummed up by his agent in a bid to get his client a lucrative new deal. It appears he succeeded.

Arsenal mocked on Twitter

Arsenal were rejected by Jamie Vardy earlier this summer and now they’ve missed out on Riyad Mahrez too.
Arsene Wenger probably wasn’t rejected by the Algerian winger but some over-excited Gooners had already jumped the gun on the expected arrival of a star signing. One fan – who didn’t mind gloating on social media – had an Arsenal shirt with Mahrez name printed on the back. Dear oh dear.
