Stones to City?
Everton defender John Stones has turned down a move to Barcelona, according to the Daily Mail.
The 22-year-old centre-half prefers a transfer to Manchester City or at least that’s what Barca believe after meeting with Stones’ agent Paul Martin last week. The Catalan giants put a £90,000-a-week contract on the table with bonuses for winning included. It was rejected for being considerably lower than that of other suitors.
Barca to returnPerhaps Barca will come back in for Stones but the call of Pep Guardiola may be too hard to resist. Martin Demichelis was released by the club today. Reports indicate that they’re extremely likely to sign Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao but it hasn’t put City off a bid for Stones, Pep being a big fan.
Tracking the progress of Stones since 2014, Barca won’t give up on signing him without a fight. The club identified the two-footed ball-playing defender as the perfect successor to Javier Mascherano at the back.
