The 39-year-old took charge of the Blues in 2012 and went on to win the double in 2015 as the Blues won the Women’s FA Cup for the first time in their history as well as the Women’s Super League.
Hayes, who has spent over a decade working in north America as well as a spell with Arsenal Ladies, where she won 11 trophies in three seasons, said she was shocked to receive the honour.
“It came as a great surprise to receive an MBE and it is a true honour for me and my family,” she said.
“I would like to thank everyone who has worked with me throughout my career as without their support I would not have achieved the success I have to date and I would not be receiving accolades like this.
“In particular I would like to thank my mum and dad and my entire family as they have supported me through thick and thin and have made this achievement possible.”
Bruce Buck, Chelsea chairman, also added his congratulations and revealed the club’s pride in Hayes’ achievements.
“On behalf of everybody at Chelsea Football Club, I would like to congratulate Emma on this fantastic honour,” he added.
“It is richly deserved and testament to many years of hard work and dedication. Emma is a pioneer for the Ladies’ game and a superb role model. We are very proud of her achievements with us over the past four years and long may it continue.”
