For a memorable, floating treat, Moorings is the place

The Moorings restaurant and bar at Mtwapa Creek in North Coast, Kenya.

The open-air restaurant has a great view of the Mtwapa Bridge, with the added charm of a dhow that guests can go sailing in.

Floating for 22 years now, this is the place to run to, to enjoy Africa at its purest.

The breeze from mangroves around the restaurant clears the air for guests. Most guests arrive there to escape the crowded Mtwapa town.

The restaurant is spacious and provides privacy. Families and business meetings can be held conveniently and concurrently.

Lovers, too, are not left out. With its captivating sundowners, The Moorings is the ideal site for romantic dates.

According to Mr Francis Wekesa, a business manager at the restaurant, the dhow has a capacity of 20 people and a trip in it can take as many hours as the guests want.

SPECTACULAR SUNSETS

“A dhow trip can take a whole day where our visitors get to enjoy the nature, spectacular sunsets and the silence of Mtwapa creek,” said Mr Wekesa.

The typical Arab sailing vessel, the dhow has very comfortable seats and an engine that helps it move in the event that there is no wind, as it cruises along the mangrove-lined creek.
